I can only hope you woke up this morning feeling refreshed and ready to start a new day. If you didn't, be not dismayed, it's still very likely you can and will have a good day if you choose too. The choice is yours to make!
Recently, I was inspired by a friend to get consistent with my workouts. Up until now my excuse was I needed a workout buddy or a trainer. (Mind you, I spent most of my life as a semi-pro athlete but we won't get into that today.) So anyway, we're texting back and forth and they shared their inspiring workout story. Of course the highlight was how they just got up one day and said, 'to hell with it I'm going to do this on my own.' The moment they were finished with their story I was dressed in sweats ready to hop to it. I ran a ten minute mile and I felt great. Especially since it's been so long since I hit the track. So, I decided to set a goal that I'd reach an 8 minute mile by July.
WELL, today is APRIL 15th and like the stubborn, competitive athlete I STILL am I decided to run my 8 minute mile TODAY. It was painful... I pushed hard... I did it. I needed to see if it was possible for me to talk myself into actually doing it.
Now here is where today's Gift of Gab food for thought comes in...
Though I accomplished my goal, I still have to hit it again, and it makes no sense in pushing to a point of discomfort and strain. I risk potentially injuring myself or my spirit of obtainining my goal.
I NEED to learn to PACE MYSELF.
Very often I don't pace myself and I jump the gun in many areas of my life. We're so hooked on instant gratification especially in this high tech computer age where we're surrounded by fast paced technology--microwaves to zap our foods to be ready in a minute, high speed internet that loads Google search results in seconds, and Twitter which is like instant messaging on crack. We want what we want, when we want it, and we're always demanding it happen NOW rather than later.
Success does not work in this way. Not career success, relationship success, or any type of success for that matter. Anything truly worth appreciating is worth waiting for. The hard work you contribute towards it day in and day out will make it that much more important to you.
Keep in mind if it were EASY everyone would be doing it. Everyone would have a million dollars, an amazing relationship, and cars would probably be flying in the air by now.
Take it easy... Take it slow... Pace yourself. Learn to enjoy every step of the journey. Especially if you have someone you're enjoying it with. This isn't a race. It's your life.
I hope you continue to have a great day, and if you weren't then I hope you enjoy a turnaround point. Call someone that makes you smile, eat something you enjoy, or simply hug yourself and say "I love you!" Whatever it is you do, remember you always have a choice. CHOOSE happiness, CHOOSE success, and let no one take it from you.
With Love & Sincerity,
Gabrielle
**To my muse that inspires me every morning... thank you. I hope your day is as wonderful as you.**
